Kano Bans ‘Signing-Out’ Celebrations in Private Schools, Warns Defaulters of Sanctions
The Kano State Government has imposed an immediate ban on all forms of “Signing-Out” celebrations in private and voluntary schools across the state, warning that any school found violating the directive will face appropriate administrative and disciplinary sanctions.
The directive, issued through the Kano State Private and Voluntary Institutions Board (KSPVIB), followed concerns raised by the Office of the Executive Governor and other relevant stakeholders over the growing trend of “Signing-Out” celebrations among graduating students.
According to a circular dated July 15, 2026, and signed by the Director of Special Duties, Mustapha Badawi Yahya, for the Executive Secretary of the Board, the celebrations have become inconsistent with the values and objectives of the educational system and pose serious risks to students’ safety, public order and community standards.
The circular directed all proprietors, head teachers, principals and school administrators to immediately prohibit the organisation, promotion, endorsement or facilitation of any form of “Signing-Out” celebration within or outside school premises.
Schools were also instructed to sensitise graduating students on the importance of discipline, good morals and responsible conduct, while engaging parents and guardians to discourage their children and wards from participating in such activities.
In addition, school authorities were directed to put in place effective measures to ensure strict compliance with the directive.
The Board stressed that any private or voluntary school found organising, encouraging or permitting “Signing-Out” celebrations would be held responsible and could face administrative and disciplinary sanctions in accordance with the laws and regulations governing private educational institutions in Kano State.
KSPVIB urged all proprietors to give the circular the widest possible circulation within their schools and ensure immediate and full compliance with the directive.
