Tinubu Names Abdulaziz Yari DG as APC Unveils 2027 Presidential Campaign Council
Former Zamfara State Governor, Senator Abdulaziz Yari, has been appointed Director-General of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council for the 2027 general elections, as the ruling party unveiled its campaign structure ahead of the polls.
Yari’s appointment places the former governor at the centre of the APC’s presidential campaign machinery, where he will be responsible for coordinating the party’s nationwide campaign operations under the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
President Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima will serve as Chairman and Vice Chairman of the Presidential Campaign Council respectively, while APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, will also serve as Vice Chairman.
Imo State Governor, Hope Uzodimma, has been appointed Secretary of the council.
The list of members was released on Saturday, August 22, 2026, in a statement signed by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy.
Yari, a former governor and senior APC figure, is expected to work with the party’s national leadership, governors, lawmakers and other campaign officials in coordinating the party’s bid to retain the presidency in the 2027 election.
Akpabio, Abbas, Buni Named Deputy DGs
The campaign council has assigned major roles to the leadership of the National Assembly and key governors.
Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas and Yobe State Governor Mai Mala Buni have been appointed Deputy Directors-General for the campaign in the South and North.
They will work with Senator Bamidele Opeyemi and Deputy Senate President Senator Jibril Barau in the two zones.
Senator Adams Oshiomhole will serve as Deputy Director-General in charge of Mobilisation, while the President’s Chief of Staff will oversee administration as Deputy Director-General.
James Abiodun Faleke, who played a prominent role in the APC’s 2022/2023 presidential campaign, returns as Deputy Director-General in charge of Election Planning, Coordination and Monitoring.
Faleke will coordinate zonal election directors across the six geopolitical zones.
Senior Politicians Join Advisory Team
The campaign council’s chairman, President Tinubu, will be supported by an advisory body comprising Chief Bisi Akande, Chief Segun Osoba, Senator Rochas Okorocha, Senator Abdullahi Adamu and Senator Florence Ita-Giwa.
The arrangement brings together senior political figures and experienced campaign operators as the APC prepares for the 2027 contest.
Mohammed Idris Heads Media Strategy
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris Malagi, will serve as Coordinating Director for Media and Strategic Communication.
He will work with Dele Alake, Bayo Onanuga and Lanre Issa-Onilu, while Tunde Rahman, Sunday Dare, Daniel Bwala and Felix Morka will serve as Coordinating Deputy Directors.
Abdulaziz AbdulAziz, Temitope Ajayi, Arabinrin Aderonke and Frederick Nwabufor have been named Coordinating Secretaries of the media directorate.
Segun Dada will return as Director of New Media, the same position he held during the 2022/2023 campaign, with Solomon Arowolo serving as Secretary.
The campaign has also appointed five spokespersons led by Dele Alake. Others are Alwan Hassan, Ayobami Oyalowo, Kemi Asekun-Shittu and Adamu Fanda.
Yari to Drive Nationwide Campaign Machinery
Beyond the formal appointment of the campaign leadership, the structure gives Yari a central coordinating role in translating the APC’s political message into a nationwide electoral campaign.
The Director-General will be expected to work with the various directorates, zonal structures and party stakeholders to ensure coordination of the campaign as the party moves into the election season.
President Tinubu has charged all members of the council to work tirelessly to secure victory for the APC in the January 2027 elections.
He also directed the heads of the various directorates to reach out to other party members who were not formally listed but could contribute to the campaign.
Tinubu said the APC had delivered on its campaign promises and urged members of the council to project the administration’s achievements to Nigerians.
“We have delivered on our campaign promises and set our country on a path of economic progress.”
The President said Nigeria was now approaching a period in which citizens would begin to reap the benefits of the government’s economic policies.
He urged the campaign team to confidently communicate the administration’s record and inspire hope across the country.
“As we march into the campaign season, we have many achievements to trumpet—let us confidently showcase our record and inspire hope in every corner of our nation.”
Tinubu further charged the campaign council to defeat opposition forces seeking to reverse the direction of the country.
“Let us soundly defeat all those forces who plan to take our country backwards.”
The APC’s campaign structure comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 general elections, with the party moving to consolidate its nationwide political machinery under Yari and other senior campaign officials.
