Jigawa Polytechnic Hosts Accreditation Team, Moves Closer to NSQF Implementation
The Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse, has taken a major step towards strengthening entrepreneurship and technical skills development following an accreditation inspection of its Entrepreneurship and Skills Development Directorate by a team from the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) and the Skills Council of Nigeria.
This was contained in a statement issued to newsmen by the Polytechnic’s Public Relations Officer, Salima Aminu Sa’ad.
According to the statement, the accreditation exercise was conducted on Monday, August 17, 2026, with the Polytechnic management, under the leadership of Rector Dr. Suleiman Ahmed Badayi, receiving the accreditation team.
The team comprised Engineer Bashir Jamilu of the National Board for Technical Education and Engineer Musa Hassan of the Skills Council of Nigeria.
The accreditation officials were conducted round the Directorate by its Director, Dr. M.U. Usman, where they inspected offices, workshops, laboratories, lecture rooms, toilets, tools, equipment and consumables.
The statement said the accreditation team expressed satisfaction with the level of development recorded by Jigawa State Polytechnic, particularly in the areas of entrepreneurship and skills development.
The team, however, made a number of recommendations aimed at further improving the Directorate and strengthening its capacity to deliver quality technical and entrepreneurial training.
Responding on behalf of the Polytechnic’s management, Dr. Badayi appreciated the accreditation team for what he described as a thorough and professional assessment.
He also commended the Jigawa State Government for its continued commitment and investment in strengthening entrepreneurship and skills development at the institution.
The Rector disclosed that the modern structure being constructed by the state government for the Directorate was at the concluding stage, adding that the facility was designed to provide a world-class environment for practical and technical training.
According to him, the Directorate is being equipped with modern workshops, equipment and an extensive array of tools tailored to various technical trades, including Electrical and Electronic Installation, Welding and Metal Fabrication, Block/Brick Making and Concreting.
Dr. Badayi said the strategic investment by the state government was aimed at equipping students with practical and entrepreneurial skills that would enable them to become self-reliant and employers of labour rather than merely job seekers.
He stressed that the focus on practical skills would complement academic training and prepare graduates to establish businesses, create employment opportunities and contribute to the economic development of Jigawa State and Nigeria.
The Polytechnic management expressed optimism that the accreditation exercise would receive a favourable recommendation and approval from the relevant authorities.
The statement added that a successful accreditation would facilitate the implementation of the Nigerian Skills Qualifications Framework (NSQF) at Jigawa State Polytechnic, Dutse.
The anticipated implementation of the framework is expected to further strengthen the institution’s technical and vocational training programmes while providing a structured pathway for the recognition and certification of students’ acquired skills.
The development, according to the Polytechnic, represents another significant milestone in its efforts to reposition the institution as a centre for entrepreneurship, innovation and practical skills development.
