TCN Restores Benin–Omotosho 330kV Transmission Line, Boosts Power Supply to Three DisCos
The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the Benin–Omotosho 330kV transmission line, ending a week-long outage and paving the way for improved electricity supply to millions of consumers served by three electricity distribution companies.
The transmission line was successfully restored at 7:05 p.m. on Thursday, July 2, 2026, according to a statement issued by TCN’s General Manager, Public Affairs, Ndidi Mbah.
The outage, which began on June 25, 2026, was caused by the detachment of conductors along the transmission line, resulting in reduced power evacuation to affected distribution companies.
TCN explained that its engineers immediately commenced repair works, restrung the damaged conductors, and carried out comprehensive maintenance on the affected sections before restoring the line to full operation.
With the transmission line now back in service, Benin Electricity Distribution Company (BEDC), Eko Electricity Distribution Plc (Eko DisCo), and Ikeja Electric will be able to receive and distribute more electricity to customers across their respective franchise areas.
The restoration is expected to enhance power availability and improve the reliability of electricity supply in the affected regions.
TCN expressed regret over the inconvenience caused by the outage and thanked electricity consumers and stakeholders for their patience, understanding, and cooperation throughout the repair period.
