2027: Jigawa ADC Members Petition Party Leadership, Seek Scrutiny of Sabo Nakudu Over ICPC Reports
Some members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Gwaram Local Government Area of Jigawa State have petitioned the party’s National Chairman, urging the leadership to carefully assess the political future of former Senator Sabo Nakudu in light of reports linking him to an investigation into constituency projects.
The petition, submitted to the ADC National Secretariat, was jointly signed by Abubakar Sani and Ibrahim Mai Jama’a, both identified as registered members of the party in Gwaram.
According to the petitioners, Nakudu, who represented Jigawa South-West Senatorial District in the Senate from 2015 to 2023 and recently contested the ADC governorship primary alongside Bashir Adamu (Matawallen Kazaure), was mentioned in reports arising from investigations by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC).
The petition cited media reports alleging that the ICPC recovered about ₦2.8 billion from Senator Nakudu and two other lawmakers in connection with constituency projects.
It also referred to reports claiming that two Toyota Hilux vehicles, water pumping machines, motorcycles and drilling rigs allegedly linked to companies associated with the former senator were recovered during the investigation.
Among the reports referenced in the petition was an April 12, 2022 publication titled “Constituency Projects: How Kebbi, Jigawa, Taraba Senators Robbed Constituents, Cornered Huge Contracts – Report.” The petition also cited another report published on April 25, 2022, alleging that the ICPC indicted Nakudu and other lawmakers over constituency projects. It further referenced a Facebook post by public affairs analyst Reuben Abati commenting on the matter.
The petitioners argued that the controversy surrounding the reports could become a political liability for the ADC ahead of the 2027 governorship election if Nakudu eventually secures the party’s ticket.
They urged the party leadership to subject all aspirants to thorough scrutiny, stressing that fielding candidates facing serious public allegations could undermine the ADC’s message of transparency, accountability and good governance.
According to the petition, many residents of Jigawa State are looking to the ADC as a credible alternative after years of APC administration, and the party should avoid decisions capable of weakening its electoral chances.
The petition concluded by urging the party’s National Chairman and the National Working Committee (NWC) to review the issues raised and take appropriate action in the interest of the party and the people of Jigawa State.
Senator Sabo Nakudu has previously denied any wrongdoing in relation to the allegations. As of the time of filing this report, there is no known court conviction against him in connection with the claims referenced in the petition.
