BREAKING: INEC Extends Continuous Voter Registration by Two Weeks, Launches Online Self-Registration Platform
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise by an additional two weeks and introduced a new online self-registration platform aimed at making voter registration more accessible for eligible Nigerians.
The decision, announced in a statement issued on Friday and signed by the National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee (IVEC), Mohammed Kudu Haruna, follows a comprehensive review of the registration exercise and consultations with state offices, political parties, civil society organisations, and other stakeholders.
Under the new arrangement, the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, which commenced on August 18, 2025, will no longer end on July 10, 2026, as previously scheduled. Instead, eligible Nigerians now have until Friday, July 24, 2026, to register and update their voter information ahead of future elections.
In a major technological advancement, INEC also unveiled an online self-service voter registration platform that will allow first-time voters to complete their registration process, including biometric capture, using their personal devices without the need to visit any INEC office.
The commission said the initiative is designed to simplify the registration process, improve accessibility, and encourage greater participation in Nigeria’s electoral process, particularly among young and first-time voters.
INEC urged all eligible Nigerians who are yet to register, as well as those seeking to transfer their registration, replace lost or damaged Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), or update their personal details, to take advantage of the extended registration period before the new deadline of July 24, 2026.
