ADC Dissolves Kano Executive, Appoints Caretaker Committee to Restore Unity

The national leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dissolved the party’s Kano State Executive Committee and inaugurated a caretaker committee to oversee its affairs pending the conduct of fresh congresses, in what the party described as a constitutional move aimed at restoring stability and strengthening its structures.
The announcement was made on Monday in Kano by the party’s Deputy National Chairman (North West), Hajiya Najaatu Muhammad, during a press briefing at the Kano Press Centre.
Speaking to journalists, Hajiya Najaatu disclosed that the newly constituted caretaker committee would be chaired by Alhaji Umar Bala, explaining that the decision followed the constitutional responsibility of the party’s national leadership to safeguard the unity, continuity and constitutional integrity of the ADC in Kano State.
She emphasized that the dissolution of the state executive should not be viewed as a victory for any faction within the party but rather as a constitutional response to an administrative situation that required urgent intervention.
According to her, the objective of the caretaker arrangement is to restore stability, maintain uninterrupted party administration and prepare the ground for credible congresses that will produce substantive leadership.
“The decision is not intended to favour one group over another. It is a constitutional step taken in the interest of preserving the unity and future of the party in Kano State,” she said.
Hajiya Najaatu noted that the national leadership acted in line with the provisions of the ADC Constitution, the Electoral Act and its broader responsibility to ensure order and continuity whenever a leadership vacuum arises within the party.
She stressed that the establishment of the caretaker committee should not be interpreted as a judgment on the loyalty or commitment of party members across the state, acknowledging the sacrifices made by thousands of members who had remained steadfast in building the party at the grassroots despite numerous political challenges.
She said the national leadership deeply appreciated their dedication and assured them that every genuine member remained an integral part of the party.
Outlining the committee’s mandate, Hajiya Najaatu stated that its primary responsibility would be to reconcile aggrieved members, rebuild confidence in the party’s structures, strengthen internal institutions and prepare the party for future congresses.
She charged members of the caretaker committee to discharge their responsibilities with fairness, transparency, humility and impartiality, stressing that true leadership should be measured by the ability to unite members rather than deepen divisions.
She further urged the committee to consult widely, remain patient and always regard leadership as a trust bestowed upon them.
The ADC Deputy National Chairman also appealed to party members across Kano State’s 44 local government areas to support the transitional arrangement in good faith, assuring them that the party remained open to all members regardless of previous differences.
She called on stakeholders to embrace reconciliation, dialogue and unity, warning that internal disputes must not distract the party from positioning itself as a credible political alternative for Nigerians.
According to her, the evolving political landscape demands greater discipline, cohesion and commitment from party members, urging them to focus on expanding membership, mobilising supporters and strengthening the party’s grassroots structures instead of dwelling on internal disagreements.
Expressing confidence in the future of the ADC in Kano State, Hajiya Najaatu urged members to uphold the party’s constitution and democratic ideals by replacing division with dialogue, suspicion with trust and personal interests with the collective interest of the party.
She concluded by praying for God’s guidance for the caretaker committee, the people of Kano State and Nigeria as a whole.
