The Kano State House of Assembly has officially confirmed Murtala Sule Garo as the new Deputy Governor of Kano State following a successful screening exercise conducted during plenary.
The historic confirmation took place during a sitting presided over by the Speaker of the House, Jibril Isma’il Falgore, after lawmakers considered and adopted the report of an ad hoc committee established to screen the nominee.
Presenting the committee’s report, the Chairman of the committee and Deputy Speaker, Muhammad Bello, explained that the nomination of Garo followed the resignation of the former Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
He noted that the screening was conducted in strict compliance with Section 191(3)(c) of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), which empowers the House of Assembly to approve a nominee whenever a vacancy occurs in the office of Deputy Governor.
According to the committee, Murtala Sule Garo underwent a detailed and comprehensive screening process, which included an extensive question-and-answer session covering his educational qualifications, administrative experience, knowledge of governance, and vision for the future of Kano State.
The committee also stated that his credentials were carefully scrutinized and verified, while members expressed satisfaction with his competence, leadership qualities, and readiness for the task ahead.
Lawmakers further observed that Garo demonstrated a strong grasp of the duties and constitutional responsibilities of the office, while presenting a practical roadmap to complement the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in delivering democratic dividends to the people.
Based on the committee’s findings, the House adopted the recommendation for his confirmation. Thereafter, Speaker Jibril Isma’il Falgore put the matter to a voice vote, where members unanimously approved the nomination.
With the development, Murtala Sule Garo has now been formally confirmed as the Deputy Governor of Kano State.
The Assembly also reaffirmed its commitment to sustaining cordial relations with the executive arm of government in the interest of good governance, transparency, accountability, and accelerated socio-economic development across Kano State.
The confirmation of Garo is widely seen as a major political milestone that could further strengthen the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and enhance governance in one of Nigeria’s most politically significant states.
