Northern Reps Caucus Mourns Lawmaker Danjuma Hassan, Hails His Lasting Legislative Legacy
The Northern Caucus of the House of Representatives has announced, with deep sorrow, the passing of one of its prominent members, Muhammad Danjuma Hassan, describing his death as a major loss to the legislature and the nation.
In a press statement issued on April 11, 2026, and signed by its leader, Alhassan Ado Doguwa, the caucus said the late lawmaker died on the evening of Friday, April 10, 2026, in Abuja after a prolonged illness. He was 66 years old.
Until his death, Hon. Hassan represented the Dawakin Kudu/Warawa Federal Constituency of Kano State and served as Deputy Chairman of the House Committee on Judiciary. The caucus noted that his demise has created a significant void within the National Assembly, his constituency, and the country at large.
Describing him as one of Nigeria’s foremost legislative counsels and legal draftsmen, the statement highlighted his immense contributions to legislative development and constitutional processes. According to the caucus, many laws enacted over the years bear his intellectual imprint, reflecting decades of dedicated service to national development.
Before venturing into partisan politics, Hassan built a distinguished career within the National Assembly bureaucracy, rising through the ranks to become a Permanent Secretary. His transition into elective office, the statement noted, brought invaluable institutional knowledge and experience to the legislature.
During his time in the House, he was widely regarded as a diligent and thoughtful lawmaker. He served on several key committees, including Public Petitions, Aviation, Solid Minerals, Constitution Review, and Treaties, Protocols and Agreements, where he played an active role in legislative oversight and policy formulation.
Colleagues described him as a consummate professional, respected for his depth of experience, humility, and calm disposition, as well as his commitment to consensus-building in legislative processes.
The caucus extended its condolences to his immediate family, constituents, and key government officials, including the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Abbas Tajudeen, and the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, as well as the government and people of Kano State.
Prayers were offered for the repose of his soul, with the caucus asking Almighty Allah to grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give his family the strength to bear the irreparable loss.
The late lawmaker is remembered as a dedicated public servant whose legacy in Nigeria’s legislative and legal development will endure for generations.
