Kwankwaso Petitions DSS Against Gov Yusuf’s Media Aides Amid Claims of Cyberbullying, Intimidation and Defamation of Character
Former Kano State governor and leader of the Kwankwasiyya movement, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has petitioned the Department of State Services (DSS) over alleged cyberbullying and online harassment targeting him and other prominent members of his political camp.
The petition was submitted under the Kwankwasiyya Movement in Kano and addressed to the DSS Director in the state was signed by Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
In the petition dated April 9, 2026, Kwankwaso accused several individuals, including aides to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, of orchestrating coordinated defamatory campaigns on social media platforms, particularly Facebook.
Those named include Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, spokesperson to the governor; Salisu Yahaya Hotoro; Ibrahim Adam, Special Adviser on Information and a former media aide to Kwankwaso; Nuhu Dambazau; and Mukhtar S. Yahuza, among others said to be at large.
The Sen. Kwankwaso through his movement, alleged that the individuals were involved in sustained cyberbullying, online harassment, and smear campaigns against key figures within his movement, including Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, Rufai Sani Hanga and his humble self.
According to the petition dated Friday 10th April, 2026, Sen. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso alleged that actions have intensified in recent times, raising concerns over the use of digital platforms to spread defamatory content and heighten political tension in Kano against his personality and his Kwankwasiyya Movement.
“It has become evident that certain individuals allegedly occupying official positions within the Kano State Government are behind persistent cyberbullying and coordinated attacks against our leaders,” the petition stated.
The former NNPP Presidential candidate called on the DSS to investigate the allegations and take appropriate action, warning that such activities could undermine peace and political stability.
However, political observers note that the development comes amid a long-running social media rivalry between supporters of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and backers of the Kano State Government.
They argue that online confrontations have been a recurring feature on both sides, with government officials often being targets of sustained criticism from opposition supporters.
As of the time of filing this report, neither the DSS nor the Kano State Government has issued an official response to the petition.
