Police Arrest Six Over Cable Vandalism, INEC Office Break-In In Kebbi
The Kebbi State Police Command has arrested six suspects over alleged cable vandalism and the breaking and entry into the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) office in Jega Local Government Area of the state.
The Command also recovered all six generators allegedly stolen from the INEC office, although one of the generators had already been dismantled into scrap parts for sale.
The Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, ANIPR, ANISMA, disclosed this in a statement issued on Monday.
According to the statement, Police operatives on August 28, 2026, at about 7:30am, arrested a 24-year-old man, Aliyu Muhammed, of Dudduke Village, Jega LGA, while he was allegedly in possession of bundles of aluminium cable wires concealed in a sack.
The suspect, during interrogation, reportedly confessed to conspiring with one Yusuf Dudduke, also of Dudduke Village, to vandalise and steal cables from an electric pole in the community.
Following the confession, the Police arrested Yusuf Dudduke.
In a separate operation, detectives were deployed after the Command received a report of breaking and entry into the INEC office in Jega, where six generators were reported stolen.
The investigation subsequently led to the arrest of four additional suspects and the recovery of all six generators.
The Police said one of the generators had already been dismantled into scrap parts apparently intended for sale.
The six suspects are currently in police custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations, the Command said.
The Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Umar M. Hadejia, psc, MNIM, warned that vandalism of critical infrastructure, breaking and entry, and theft of government property would attract severe penalties.
