Governor Yusuf Reshuffles Key Positions, Announces New Appointments in Kano
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved fresh appointments and promotions across key government institutions as part of efforts to strengthen public service delivery and enhance institutional efficiency in the state.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Monday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
Among the appointments, Abubakar Ibrahim Matawalle was named Acting Director-General of the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board. Matawalle, an experienced administrator, previously served as Executive Secretary of the Pilgrims Welfare Board and Permanent Secretary, Establishment, before retiring from the Kano State civil service in 2014.
Matawalle, who rose through the ranks from Assistant Secretary to Permanent Secretary, served eight years in the top administrative position and is widely recognised for his expertise in managing Hajj operations and public administration.
In another development, Yusuf Mukhtar has been elevated to the rank of Permanent Secretary, a promotion described as recognition of his dedication and contributions to the civil service.
Similarly, Barrister Rahama Malam Alhaji has been appointed as Provost of the Kano State Anti-Corruption Institute. She is a legal practitioner with over seven years of experience in litigation, corporate law, electricity law, regulatory compliance and dispute resolution.
Rahama has built a reputation for providing strategic legal solutions, handling complex contractual matters and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks in both private and public sector institutions. Her professional experience includes corporate leadership roles at Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) and academic administration as Head of the School of Law at Maryam Abacha American University of Nigeria (MAAUN).
During her academic career, she initiated several programmes, including the establishment of a Law Clinic and a Student Bar Association. She also holds advanced academic qualifications, including a Master of Laws (LLM) in International Law.
The governor also approved the promotion of veteran Kannywood actress, Aina’u Ade, from Special Assistant to Senior Special Assistant on Kannywood Affairs. The promotion was attributed to her outstanding performance and contributions in her previous role.
According to the statement, the appointments and promotions form part of Governor Yusuf’s broader strategy to reposition key sectors and ensure effective administration of government institutions across Kano State.
The governor urged the appointees to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating commitment, transparency, diligence and loyalty to the administration’s Kano First Agenda.
All the appointments and promotions take immediate effect.
