BREAKING: High Court Affirms Abiya as Acting Kano NNPP Chairman, Bars Dungurawa from Party Affairs
A High Court sitting in Kano has affirmed Abdullahi Zubair Imam Abiya as the Acting Chairman of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Kano State Chapter, pending the determination of an ongoing leadership dispute within the party.
In a ruling delivered , the court upheld the suspension of the former state chairman, Alhaji Dungurawa, and issued an order restraining him from interfering in the affairs of the party at the state level until the substantive suit is resolved.
The case was instituted by members of the Dawakin Tofa Local Government Executive Committee, who are challenging actions taken by the former chairman and seeking judicial clarity on the party’s leadership structure in Kano State.
The presiding judge, after considering the applications before the court, ruled that maintaining the status quo was necessary to prevent a breakdown of order within the party. The court consequently recognized Abiya’s position in an acting capacity and reinforced disciplinary measures earlier taken against Dungurawa.
The matter has been adjourned to January 19 for substantive hearing.
Party stakeholders say the ruling is expected to bring temporary stability to the NNPP in Kano as the legal process continues, especially amid preparations for upcoming political activities.
