Kano Government Warns Against Duplication of Elders Advisory Council, Reaffirms Commitment to Unity
The Kano State Government has cautioned against attempts to duplicate the Kano Elders
Advisory Council (KEAC), urging individuals and organizations to align with the framework already established by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The warning follows a recent pronouncement by the Arewa Consultative Forum (ACF) regarding the creation of a separate Kano State Elders Council.
In a statement issued by the State Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, the government acknowledged the good intentions of ACF and similar groups but stressed that KEAC, announced in January 2024, is already in place and undergoing institutionalization for full operation.
According to the government, the KEAC is composed of highly respected figures, including former Governors, Deputy Governors, Speakers of the State Assembly and House of Representatives, retired Supreme Court and Court of Appeal Justices, former Chief Judges of Kano State, former Grand Khadis, former Secretaries to the State Government, ex-Heads of Service, traditional rulers, leaders of the business community, eminent Ulamas, and retired security chiefs.
Commissioner Waiya emphasized that the Council is designed as a neutral, non-partisan, and apolitical platform that draws on wisdom, knowledge, and experience to provide guidance for inclusive development and peace in Kano State.
“This noble initiative, the first of its kind in Kano, is deliberately conceived as a neutral body without political ambitions, standing instead as a collective forum for guidance, collaboration, and inclusive development,” he stated.
The government reiterated that the KEAC will soon be formally inaugurated by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf once the institutional framework is concluded.
While reaffirming its open-door policy, the administration encouraged all stakeholders to work together under the existing structure to achieve the common good of Kano people.
“We firmly believe that by working together, we can strengthen the Council and ensure that its objectives are fully realized in the interest of peace, progress, and prosperity in our State,” the statement added.
