Governor Abba’s Reconciliation Move Can Reshape Kano APC Ahead of 2027 — Junaidu Tofa
A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Dr. Junaidu Yakubu Tofa, has commended Kano State Governor, Engr. Abba Kabir Yusuf, for what he described as a commendable approach to political reconciliation, inclusion and empowerment across former political divides.
Tofa said the Governor’s reported efforts to accommodate and empower some APC youths through land allocation and other opportunities could provide an important foundation for reconciliation, unity and stronger political cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to him, the development demonstrates that political differences can be put aside when the broader interests of Kano State are placed above personal interests.
He said sustaining and expanding the initiative could help reduce mistrust, heal old political wounds and create a broader political coalition by bringing people who previously stood on opposite sides of the political divide closer together.
Tofa particularly highlighted the importance of empowering former APC youths, noting that many of them possess strong grassroots connections and political experience that could be valuable to the party’s future.
He, however, urged Governor Yusuf to extend the reconciliation initiative beyond the youths to include APC elders and experienced political leaders.
In particular, he called for engagement with Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Governor of Kano State and immediate past National Chairman of the APC, saying his experience, knowledge of the party’s structures and understanding of Kano’s political landscape could contribute to bridging differences among competing tendencies within the party.
“Dr. Ganduje’s extensive political experience, knowledge of APC structures and understanding of the political landscape of Kano can be valuable in bridging differences among the various tendencies within the party,” Tofa said.
He maintained that the involvement of Ganduje, alongside other respected APC elders, could provide the experience and political wisdom required to build a stronger and more united party ahead of 2027.
Tofa also urged APC stakeholders in Kano to recognize the changing political environment and what he described as the continued influence of former Kano State Governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
He said Kwankwaso’s political strength in Kano should encourage APC stakeholders to resolve their internal differences and work collectively.
“This should not be treated as a personal fight against any individual. Rather, it should remind APC members that internal unity is essential when facing a strong political challenge,” he stated.
The APC chieftain said if Governor Yusuf succeeds in bringing former APC youths, elders, grassroots leaders and different political tendencies together, the development could trigger a significant realignment of political forces in Kano State.
He said former political opponents could gradually become partners if genuine dialogue, mutual respect and inclusion were allowed to take root.
Tofa therefore encouraged Governor Yusuf to sustain the initiative and establish genuine channels of dialogue with members of the old APC political family.
He said reaching out to Ganduje and other respected APC elders would send a powerful message that the party was prepared to put past differences aside and build a new political relationship based on mutual respect and common interests.
“Let the door of reconciliation remain open, let the elders be respected, let the youths be empowered, and let every stakeholder have a place in the political family,” he said.
Tofa concluded that sustained reconciliation and inclusion could become important factors in reshaping Kano’s political landscape, reducing internal divisions and creating a stronger foundation for APC’s political prospects in 2027.
He summarized his position by saying: “Unity is strength. Reconciliation is wisdom. Inclusion is the pathway to a stronger political future for Kano State APC.”
