Gov. Yusuf Receives FG Delegation Ahead of Kano Light Rail Groundbreaking
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has received a high-level delegation from the Ministry of Finance Incorporated (MOFI) and Mota-Engil Nigeria ahead of the groundbreaking ceremony of the Kano Light Rail Project recently approved by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Thursday by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
The delegation, led by the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of MOFI, Dr. Armstrong Ume Takang, and the Chairman of Mota-Engil Nigeria, Mr. Kola Karim, met with Governor Yusuf at the Kano State Governor’s Lodge in Asokoro, Abuja, to brief him on preparations for the commencement of the landmark project.
The Kano Light Rail Project, approved at a contract sum of ₦1.05 trillion, is expected to revolutionise urban transportation in Kano by improving connectivity, reducing traffic congestion and stimulating economic activities across the state.
Speaking during the meeting, Governor Yusuf reaffirmed the Kano State Government’s commitment to working closely with the Federal Government and the contractors to ensure the successful implementation of the project.
He described the light rail initiative as a strategic investment that would reinforce Kano’s status as the commercial hub of Northern Nigeria while providing residents with a modern, safe and efficient mass transit system.
Governor Yusuf expressed profound appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, for approving the project, describing it as a major boost to infrastructure development in Kano State.
He also commended the Chairman of the House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Hon. Abubakar Kabir Bichi, for his legislative support, which he said contributed significantly to the realization of the project.
