Governor Yusuf Appoints Lamara Garba to Kano Anti-Drug Task Force
KANO – Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of the Director of Public Affairs at Bayero University, Kano (BUK), Lamara Garba, to serve as a member of the Kano State Special Inter-Agency Task Force on Drug Abuse and Trafficking.
The appointment reflects the administration’s confidence in Garba’s distinguished professional record, his widely recognised expertise in public communication, and his strong track record in strategic advocacy, stakeholder engagement, and public enlightenment.
The Special Inter-Agency Task Force was established by the Kano State Government as a high-level coordinating platform to strengthen and harmonise efforts aimed at combating the rising challenge of drug abuse and illicit drug trafficking across the state.
The committee is tasked with deepening collaboration among key government ministries, security agencies, health institutions, and community-based organisations in a unified response to the growing threat of substance abuse.
Its core responsibilities include the development of robust strategies for the prevention and control of drug abuse, the coordination of sustained public awareness and advocacy campaigns, the facilitation of intelligence sharing among relevant agencies, the formulation of policy recommendations to curb illicit drug trafficking, and advising the state government on targeted interventions to protect vulnerable populations—particularly young people—from the devastating effects of substance abuse.
