INEC Recognises David Mark-Led ADC Leadership, Confirms Party’s 2027 Candidates
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has confirmed that it will recognise only the leadership of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) led by former Senate President David Mark for the 2027 general elections, effectively settling the party’s leadership dispute for the purpose of candidate nominations.
INEC National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, Mohammed Haruna, disclosed that the commission granted the David Mark-led leadership access to its candidate nomination portal following the judicial decision affirming its leadership.
According to Haruna, the recognised ADC leadership has already submitted candidates for 471 elective positions ahead of the 2027 general election through INEC’s official nomination portal.
The submitted nominations include candidates for the presidency, the Senate and the House of Representatives, while INEC maintained that no rival faction was authorised to upload candidates on behalf of the party.
Haruna explained that the commission’s decision was based on the prevailing court judgment recognising the David Mark-led National Working Committee, stressing that the rival faction had no legal basis to submit candidates.
The clarification comes amid claims by a rival faction that it had also submitted candidates for the 2027 elections. However, INEC insisted that only submissions made by the David Mark-led leadership would be recognised for the electoral process.
