Court Orders Final Forfeiture of 48 Properties Linked to Ex-AGF Abubakar Malami
The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the final forfeiture of 48 properties linked to former Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), Abubakar Malami, after ruling that they were proceeds of unlawful activities.
Justice Joyce Abdulmalik, in a judgment delivered on Wednesday, held that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) successfully established that the properties were acquired through proceeds of unlawful activities, thereby granting the commission’s application for their final forfeiture to the Federal Government.
The ruling followed an investigation and forfeiture proceedings initiated by the EFCC, which argued that the assets were traceable to illicitly acquired funds.
Justice Abdulmalik ruled that the anti-graft agency had provided sufficient evidence to justify the permanent forfeiture of the 48 properties in accordance with the provisions of the law.
The judgment marks a significant development in the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to recover assets believed to have been acquired through unlawful means.
