National Hajj Commission of Nigeria Clarifies Viral Video on Adamawa Pilgrims’ Accommodation in Makkah
The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has dismissed as misleading a viral video circulating online alleging that some pilgrims from Adamawa State were left without accommodation for two days in Makkah.
In a statement issued by the Commission’s management, NAHCON said it immediately dispatched an investigative team to the location shown in the video to verify the claims.
According to the findings, the affected pilgrims arrived in Makkah late on May 13. While some pilgrims waited for room allocation, others proceeded to the Haram to perform their Umrah.
The Commission explained that the situation led to a communication gap during the room allocation process, as some of the pilgrims captured in the video had already been assigned rooms but were unaware of their locations.
NAHCON stated that upon their return from the Haram, officials attended to them and completed the accommodation arrangements.
The Commission further clarified that the video was recorded while the allocation process was still ongoing, thereby creating a false impression that the pilgrims had been abandoned without accommodation.
NAHCON confirmed that all the affected pilgrims have now been properly accommodated.
The statement also noted that the video contains testimonials from some Adamawa pilgrims expressing satisfaction with the accommodation provided.
The Commission urged pilgrims and officials to always verify information and contact their respective State Pilgrims Welfare Boards or NAHCON before sharing unverified or misleading reports on social media.
NAHCON reaffirmed its commitment, alongside State Pilgrims Welfare Boards, to ensuring the welfare and comfort of all Nigerian pilgrims.
