Former Kano Commissioners Rally Behind Garo as Deputy Governor Nominee
A powerful bloc of former cabinet members in Kano State has thrown its weight behind the nomination of Murtala Sule Garo as Deputy Governor, describing him as a tested administrator whose experience and loyalty would strengthen governance in the state.
In a formal letter dated April 7, 2026, and addressed to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, members of the Forum of Former Honourable Commissioners who served between 2015 and 2023 expressed “profound support and unalloyed solidarity” for Garo’s appointment.
The signatories, who served during a critical period in Kano’s political and developmental trajectory, said they had firsthand knowledge of Garo’s leadership qualities, citing his administrative competence, grassroots connection, and commitment to political stability.
“We can attest to his exceptional leadership and unwavering dedication to the progress of Kano State,” the letter read in part, noting that his performance in public office had consistently reflected a deep commitment to governance and service delivery.
The forum emphasized that Garo’s emergence as Deputy Governor would be a strategic boost to the administration, adding that his “energy, loyalty, and vast experience” would complement the governor’s development agenda and enhance policy execution across sectors.
They further pledged their collective support to ensure the success of the current administration, signaling a broader alignment among influential political actors within the state.
The endorsement, widely seen as a significant political backing, was also copied to the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly and the Kano State chapter of the All Progressives Congress, underscoring its importance within the state’s political landscape.
