Adeleke Resigns From PDP, Cites Party’s National Leadership Crisis
Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has resigned his membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), ending months of speculation about his political future ahead of the 2026 governorship election.
The development was confirmed late Monday through a statement issued by his spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed. According to the statement, the governor’s resignation was contained in a letter dated November 4, 2025, addressed to the chairman of PDP Ward 2, Sagba Abogunde, in Ede North Local Government Area.
Adeleke attributed his decision to what he described as “the ongoing crisis within the national leadership of the party,” noting that the internal turmoil had severely disrupted the PDP’s activities, including preparations for the forthcoming governorship primaries.
“I appreciate the opportunities offered to me by the PDP since 2017. However, given the unending divisions within the national leadership, I no longer find it feasible to continue as a member,” the governor stated in his letter.
His resignation comes at a critical moment for the PDP in Osun State, which had earlier suspended its scheduled December 2 governorship primary due to unresolved internal disputes and the inability of the national leadership to coordinate party activities.
Party sources say Adeleke’s exit deals a major setback to the PDP’s structure in the state, raising fresh concerns over the party’s readiness for the 2026 election cycle. While speculation continues about his next political move, the governor has not yet indicated which party he intends to join or whether he will seek re-election on a new platform.
The PDP leadership in Osun has not issued an official response as of press time.
Adeleke’s departure adds to the growing list of high-profile resignations linked to the party’s prolonged leadership crisis, heightening uncertainty around PDP’s electoral prospects both in Osun and nationally.
