Hisbah Arrests 25 Over Alleged Same-Sex Marriage in Kano
Agency says suspects to face prosecution after investigation
The Kano State Hisbah Board has confirmed the arrest of 25 young men and women for allegedly organizing an event linked to an attempted same-sex marriage at an event center located along Hotoro Bypass in Tarauni Local Government Area of the state.
Confirming the development, the Deputy Commander General (Special Operations) of the Hisbah Board, Sheikh Dr. Mujahid Aminuddeen Abubakar, said the suspects were apprehended following a tip-off from a concerned resident.
According to him, the report indicated that one Abubakar Idris was allegedly planning to tie the knot with another young man.
Dr. Mujahid explained that Hisbah operatives stormed the venue and discovered a party in progress under dim lighting conditions. Upon arrival, the operatives found a gathering of young men and women engaged in what appeared to be a marriage celebration.
He disclosed that 25 individuals were arrested—including 18 men, referred to as ’yan daudu, and seven women—drawn from different parts of the state such as Sheka, Yar Gaya, and Kofar Nasarawa.
The Hisbah official added that all the suspects are currently in Hisbah custody and will be charged to court upon completion of investigations.
Dr. Mujahid appealed to parents and guardians to instill moral values in their children, while urging members of the public to report suspicious gatherings or immoral activities to the Board or other relevant authorities.
He reaffirmed the agency’s commitment to upholding moral discipline and preserving Kano State’s reputation as a community guided by Islamic values and social responsibility.
