Kebbi PDP Disowns Turaki’s Endorsement as Northern Chair Candidate
Says party not consulted, questions ex-minister’s commitment to state affairs
The Kebbi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned the reported adoption of former Minister of Special Duties, Tanimu Turaki (SAN), as the northern consensus candidate for the position of National Chairman of the party.
Rising from an emergency meeting held in Birnin Kebbi on Saturday, the state chapter described the development as unilateral and lacking consultation, insisting it was neither involved in nor supportive of the decision reportedly reached by some PDP governors from the North.
Reading the communiqué after the meeting, the State Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Sani Dododo, said the Kebbi PDP aligns with the earlier position of North-West PDP stakeholders, who have openly rejected the purported endorsement of Turaki.
Dododo faulted the process that led to Turaki’s emergence, noting that the former minister has not been actively involved in the activities of the party within the state.
“Kabiru Tanimu has not shown any commitment or participation in the affairs of the party at the state level. His sudden emergence as a consensus candidate came as a surprise to our members,” Dododo stated.
He reaffirmed the chapter’s commitment to internal democracy, urging party leaders to ensure fairness, inclusiveness, and wide consultation in the ongoing process to produce a new national chairman.
