Kebbi State Government Refutes Claims of Adulterated Fertilizer Supply: A Commitment to Quality Agriculture
The Kebbi State Government has decisively countered allegations suggesting that the fertilizer provided to local farmers is adulterated with sand, declaring the claims baseless and unfounded. Addressing reporters in the state capital, the Commissioner for Agriculture, Alhaji Shehu Mu’azu, emphasized that such rumors have been circulated by the opposition party, the African Democratic Congress (ADC), aiming to undermine the state’s agricultural efforts.
Commissioner Mu’azu clarified that the state government, led by Governor Dr. Nasiru Idris Kauran Gwandu, has not contracted any companies for fertilizer procurement for the upcoming rainy season. Instead, the government is supporting local producers to meet the needs of farmers. “This unfounded allegation comes from those who do not wish the state well. We are committed to providing our farmers with quality fertilizers,” he stated.
Highlighting the government’s initiative, Mu’azu revealed that ten trucks of organic fertilizer have been purchased to encourage a shift from traditional chemical fertilizers to organic options. He urged the public to promote the state’s positive agricultural policies rather than spreading negativity.
To substantiate the government’s claims, Mu’azu disclosed that three reputable fertilizer companies—Maccat Agro Limited, Danmadami Fertilizer Blending Plant, and Contect Agro Allied Global Ltd—were engaged for fertilizer supply, while local governments have also partnered with Mairiga Company for procurement. He invited skeptics to examine the records and the quality of the fertilizers on display to discern the truth for themselves.
“The Governor’s decision to support local producers is aimed at enriching our agricultural sector, not undermining it,” Mu’azu concluded, reaffirming the state’s commitment to the welfare of its farmers and the integrity of its agricultural supplies.
This news comes at a crucial time for Kebbi State as it prepares for the 2025 farming season, aiming to enhance productivity and sustainability in agriculture while dispelling misinformation that could hinder progress.
