Notorious Kidnap Kingpin Captured in Nasarawa: Police Recover Arms and Uniform
The Nasarawa State Police Command has apprehended a notorious armed robber and kidnap kingpin, Mohammed Bammi, also known as Zomo, in a daring operation. The arrest took place in Doma local government area, where Bammi has been linked to a series of kidnappings and robberies that have plagued the region.
According to a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, Bammi was apprehended during a clearance operation in Doka Forest. The statement revealed that the suspect had narrowly escaped capture last month when several of his gang members were arrested. However, during this latest operation, vigilant police operatives spotted him, leading to his eventual capture.
In a desperate attempt to evade arrest, Bammi reportedly attacked the officers with a knife but was quickly overpowered. Following his arrest, he provided crucial information that led detectives to a hideout in Alagye village, Doma, where a cache of dangerous items was recovered. The haul included a pump-action rifle, a locally made AK-47 rifle with a magazine, two live rounds of ammunition, five cartridges, a knife, a rope, and two Tecno mobile phones, as well as a pair of uniforms belonging to the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).
In a separate operation, police operatives from the Awe area command acted on credible intelligence and stormed Gidan Taku village in Wuse Chiefdom, where they arrested five suspected members of a ten-man kidnapping syndicate. The suspects—Michael Ato, Richard Ato, Alom Bernard, Hangior Ato, and Jacob Hunde, also known as Okocha—are believed to be responsible for the kidnapping of Blessing John from Gidan Makaranta village. Investigations revealed that this same gang had previously abducted Blessing’s husband, John Ada Kuje, in April 2024, demanding a ransom for his release.
During the operation, police recovered two locally fabricated AK-47 rifles and one live round of ammunition from the suspects.
The Commissioner of Police for Nasarawa State commended the officers for their bravery and professionalism in these operations. He urged them to maintain the pressure on criminal elements until the state is entirely free from the grips of kidnappers and armed robbers.
The arrested suspects have been transferred to the Anti-Kidnapping Unit for further investigation and prosecution, as authorities continue their efforts to enhance security and combat crime in the region.
