Jigawa State Government Launches Major Road Project to Boost Farmers’ Access to Market
The Jigawa State Government has reaffirmed its commitment to improving rural infrastructure. Governor Umar Namadi made this announcement during the flag-off ceremony for the construction of a vital 34.2-kilometer road linking Kwanar Idonduna, Kadowawa, Gangawa, and Kwanar Olayinka in the Jahun local government area.
The road project, awarded to a reputable firm for a contract sum of 12.9 billion naira, is expected to be completed within 24 months. Governor Namadi emphasized that the provision of access roads is crucial for enhancing the transportation of goods and people, ultimately reducing the hardships faced by farmers in the region.
“This administration is dedicated to easing the difficulties our farmers encounter in getting their products to market,” Governor Namadi stated. “Improving road access is essential for boosting agricultural productivity and ensuring that our farmers can thrive.”
Highlighting the administration’s commitment to infrastructure development, the governor noted that his government has successfully completed 25 out of the 26 road projects inherited from the previous administration. The Kwanar Idonduna road is part of a broader initiative, with 47 road projects awarded by the current administration, amounting to over 300 billion naira.
In addition to the Kwanar Idonduna road, the state Commissioner for Works and Transport, Engineer Gambo S. Malam, revealed that the government is also constructing township roads in Aujara town at a contract sum of 3.4 billion naira. He further explained that the construction of feeder roads is part of the government’s strategy to enhance the economic status of rural communities.
The announcement has been met with optimism from local farmers and community leaders, who believe that improved road access will significantly impact their livelihoods and contribute to the overall economic development of Jigawa State.
