Kano Reaffirms Commitment to Poverty Reduction, Calls for Stronger Partnerships at Regional Development Summit

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to combating poverty through comprehensive social and economic interventions aimed at improving the living standards of the people of the state.
The Governor made this known through his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, who represented him at the North-West Regional Dialogue on Poverty Reduction Strategies and Social Development organized by UNICEF and the European Union.
Speaking at the event, Garo emphasized that poverty extends beyond the lack of income, noting that it also encompasses limited access to quality education, healthcare services, decent housing, and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
He stated that the Kano State Government remains committed to implementing policies and programs that address these multidimensional aspects of poverty, with a focus on empowering vulnerable groups, expanding educational opportunities, improving healthcare delivery, and creating employment opportunities for young people.
The regional dialogue brought together representatives of UNICEF, the European Union, policymakers, members of the European diplomatic community, religious leaders, and other key stakeholders to deliberate on practical solutions for reducing poverty and strengthening social protection systems.
Garo commended UNICEF and the European Union for their continued support toward social development initiatives and assistance to disadvantaged communities, describing their contributions as critical to achieving sustainable and inclusive growth.
He further called on development partners, policymakers, civil society organizations, and other stakeholders to deepen collaboration, share innovative ideas, and strengthen partnerships that can deliver lasting social protection mechanisms for vulnerable populations.
According to him, collective commitment and coordinated action are essential to ensuring that every child has access to quality education, every family enjoys improved healthcare services, and young people are provided with meaningful employment opportunities.
The Deputy Governor reaffirmed that the Kano State Government will continue to work closely with local and international partners to implement people-centered policies capable of reducing poverty, promoting social inclusion, and fostering sustainable development across the state.
“Through collaboration and shared responsibility, we can build a future where every child learns, every family thrives, and every young person has the opportunity to succeed,” he stated.
