INEC Chair Nominee, Joash Ojo Amupitan, Holds Strategic Meeting with Senate Adviser Ahead of Screening
Abuja, Nigeria — In a move seen as part of final consultations ahead of his Senate screening, Professor Joash Ojo Amupitan, nominee for the position of Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), on Wednesday met with Senator Basheer Lado, Special Adviser to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Senate Matters.
The closed-door meeting, held in Abuja, comes less than 24 hours before Amupitan is scheduled to appear before the Senate for his official screening on Thursday.
Though the details of their discussion were not made public, sources close to the Presidency described the engagement as a “strategic consultation” aimed at ensuring a smooth confirmation process for the nominee.

Professor Amupitan, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and a distinguished legal academic, was recently nominated by President Tinubu to succeed Professor Mahmood Yakubu as INEC Chairman.
His nomination has attracted significant national attention, with political observers highlighting his vast experience in constitutional law and public policy as assets that could strengthen Nigeria’s electoral system.
