Nasarawa Assembly Tasks Mining Firms on Strict Compliance with Environmental Laws
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly Committee on Environment has charged mining companies operating in the state to strictly comply with environmental regulations in the course of their activities.
Chairman of the committee, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu, made the call when he led members of the committee on an inspection visit to Avatar New Energy Materials Company located in Udege Area Administrative Council of Nasarawa Local Government Area.
Omadefu explained that the oversight visit formed part of the legislature’s constitutional responsibilities aimed at ensuring environmental protection and sustainable development across the state.
He reaffirmed the committee’s determination to hold mining companies accountable, stressing that compliance with environmental standards was essential for the safety and well-being of host communities.
“We will continue to carry out our duties by visiting mining sites and other related facilities to ensure that the right things are done for the betterment of our people,” Omadefu stated.
In his response, the Managing Director of LandMass Resources Development, Mr. Jack Jiang Xia, commended the committee for its proactive measures in safeguarding the environment.
He assured that his company remains committed to adhering strictly to environmental laws, rules, and regulations, pledging continued cooperation with the state government to promote sustainable mining practices for the overall development of Nasarawa State.
