Doguwa Set to Flag Off Mega Fertilizer Distribution Programme for Over 5,000 Constituents, Boosting Food Security and Rural Prosperity

KANO – In a major move to strengthen agricultural productivity and enhance food security, the Member representing Doguwa/Tudun Wada Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Alhassan Ado Doguwa (Sardaunan Kasar Hausa), is set to flag off a large-scale fertilizer distribution programme expected to benefit more than 5,000 constituents, with a special focus on subsistence farmers across the constituency.
The official flag-off ceremony is scheduled to hold on Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Government Secondary School (GSS), Burumburum, Tudun Wada Local Government Area of Kano State, where thousands of beneficiaries and stakeholders are expected to converge for what is being described as one of the largest agricultural empowerment initiatives in the constituency.
The programme is designed to provide timely fertilizer support to farmers ahead of the peak of the 2026 wet farming season, enabling them to improve crop yields, reduce production costs and contribute meaningfully to the nation’s food security drive.
Speaking ahead of the event, Rt. Hon. Doguwa said the initiative underscores his unwavering commitment to improving the welfare of his constituents through sustainable agricultural interventions capable of transforming rural livelihoods and stimulating economic growth.
According to the federal lawmaker, the programme aligns with the agricultural development objectives of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and complements the efforts of Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, in promoting agricultural development and supporting farmers across the state.
He noted that the commitment demonstrated by both leaders in repositioning the agricultural sector inspired him to initiate similar interventions aimed at empowering farmers and strengthening food production within Doguwa and Tudun Wada Federal Constituency.
Doguwa described agriculture as the backbone of Nigeria’s economy, emphasizing that sustained investment in the sector remains one of the most effective strategies for reducing poverty, creating employment opportunities, improving rural incomes and achieving national food sufficiency.
He explained that making fertilizer readily available to subsistence farmers would not only increase agricultural productivity but also encourage greater participation in farming activities while easing the financial burden on smallholder farmers.
The lawmaker further stated that the fertilizer distribution programme is intended to complement ongoing agricultural initiatives of both the Federal and Kano State Governments aimed at enhancing food production, empowering rural communities and strengthening local economies.
More than 5,000 beneficiaries, drawn from communities across Doguwa and Tudun Wada Local Government Areas, are expected to benefit from the exercise, making it one of the most extensive constituency-based agricultural support programmes in Kano State this farming season.
The event is expected to attract government officials, traditional rulers, religious leaders, political stakeholders, youth and women organizations, farmers’ associations, community leaders and other distinguished guests from across the constituency.
Rt. Hon. Doguwa reaffirmed that the welfare of his constituents remains his top priority, assuring them that he will continue to champion people-oriented programmes in agriculture, education, healthcare, youth empowerment and infrastructure as part of his commitment to delivering sustainable development and improving the quality of life of the people.
He stressed that empowering farmers remains critical to achieving food security, reducing hunger and driving economic prosperity in both Kano State and Nigeria at large.
The forthcoming flag-off of the fertilizer distribution programme is expected to further reinforce Rt. Hon. Doguwa’s reputation as a strong advocate of rural development and agricultural transformation, while providing much-needed support to thousands of farming households during the 2026 farming season.
