Self-Styled Presidential Council Boss Arrested Over Alleged Forgery, Impersonation
The Nigeria Police Force has arrested the self-acclaimed Director-General of the controversial Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, Adeniyi Adeyemi, in Osun State, following a bench warrant issued by the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The spokesperson for the Osun State Police Command, Abiodun Ojelabi, confirmed the arrest, stating that operatives of the Intelligence Response Team from Abuja apprehended Adeyemi at his hideout in the state.
According to Ojelabi, the suspect will be transferred to Abuja for further investigation and prosecution.
A video circulating online shows Adeyemi, dressed in a light blue traditional outfit, surrounded by security operatives during the arrest. In the footage, he repeatedly declined to identify himself before eventually responding after persistent questioning by the officers.
Earlier, Justice Mohammed Umar of the Federal High Court, Abuja, ordered Adeyemi’s arrest after he failed to appear for arraignment on an eight-count charge involving alleged conspiracy, forgery and impersonation.
The court issued the bench warrant after granting an oral application by the prosecution following the defendant’s absence from court.
The Nigeria Police Force alleges that Adeyemi operated a purported Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council, an organisation the Presidency has consistently maintained does not exist.
The case is expected to continue at the Federal High Court in Abuja after the suspect is formally presented before the court.
