Bago Backs Niger Flickers, Pledges Full Support for Hockey Super League Title Push
Niger State Governor, Mohammed Umaru Bago, has reiterated his administration’s unwavering commitment to sports development, assuring Niger Flickers Hockey Club of full government support as the team prepares for the 2026 Nigeria Hockey Super League.
Governor Bago gave the assurance while receiving the players and management of the club at the State Governor’s Lodge in Abuja.
The governor pledged to provide the necessary logistics and resources needed for the team to excel in the national league, which is scheduled to take place from June 25 to July 5, 2026.
He charged the players and officials to remain focused, disciplined, and dedicated, urging them to make Niger State proud by emerging victorious in the competition.
Governor Bago emphasized that his administration recognizes the vital role sports play in youth development, talent discovery, and the promotion of the state’s image, adding that the government remains committed to creating opportunities for athletes to thrive.
Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Chairman of the Niger State Sports Commission, Danjuma Masu, expressed appreciation to the governor for his consistent support for sports development in the state.
He noted that the governor’s commitment and encouragement have boosted the confidence of the team and strengthened their determination to compete for the coveted trophy.
“The massive support from the Farmer Governor has given the team the much-needed motivation to battle for the title,” Masu said.
Also present during the visit was the Chairman of the Niger State Hockey Association, Danjuma Kolo.
Niger Flickers Hockey Club recently returned from Nairobi, Kenya, where they participated in the prestigious Sikh Union Hockey Club Centenary Championship, gaining valuable international experience ahead of the forthcoming league season.
