Kano Announces Fasting/Sallah Holiday for Schools

The Kano State Government has announced the commencement date for the 2025/2026 Fasting/Id-el-Fitr break for all public and private primary and post-primary schools across the state.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Education, the second term of the 2025/2026 academic session will end on Saturday, 28 February, 2026. The Id-el-Fitr holiday is scheduled to begin on Sunday, 1 March, 2026, for both day and boarding schools.
Parents and guardians of pupils and students in boarding schools are advised to convey their wards home by the early hours of Friday, 27 February, 2026.
The statement further explained that boarding school pupils and students are to resume on Sunday, 22 March, 2026, while day students are expected to return on Monday, 23 March, 2026.
The second term will continue from Sunday, 22 March, 2026, and conclude on Saturday, 18 April, 2026.
All public and private schools in the state have been directed to strictly comply with the approved school calendar. The government warned that non-compliance will be treated as a breach of official directives.
The Commissioner for Education, Ali Haruna Abubakar Makoda, called on parents and guardians to ensure full adherence to the stipulated resumption dates.
He expressed appreciation to parents, guardians, and residents of the state for their continued cooperation and support to the Ministry, and wished pupils and students a successful Ramadan fast and peaceful Sallah celebration.
