Police Nab Notorious Kano Gang Leader ‘Dawa Dan Kamsusi’, Nine Others in Major Crackdown on Crime

The Kano State Police Command has arrested a suspected notorious gang leader, identified as Sunusi Dawa Kamsusi, popularly known as “Dawa Dan Kamsusi,” alongside nine other members of his alleged criminal syndicate in a major breakthrough against violent crime in parts of the state.
This was contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, Kano State Command. The arrest followed complaints from residents and community groups over escalating criminal activities across several neighborhoods.
Community Outcry Sparks Police Action
According to a press release issued by the Kano State Police Command, the operation was triggered by a formal complaint submitted on January 5, 2026, by the Hannu Da Yawa Youth Development Association Bachirawa (HADAYA). The association raised alarm over growing insecurity affecting Bachirawa, Kurna, Rijiyar Lemo, Zango, Kunture, and surrounding communities.
Residents reportedly accused the group of engaging in armed robbery, shop and house break-ins, theft, drug trafficking, and attacks on vigilante facilities.
Part of the complaint emphasized the urgency of intervention, noting that despite repeated reports from residents, the alleged criminal activities had continued to escalate, posing serious threats to public safety.
Intelligence Operation Leads to Arrest
Following the petition, the Commissioner of Police in Kano State, CP Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, directed the Command’s Anti-Daba Unit to track down those responsible. The unit subsequently launched intelligence-driven operations aimed at dismantling the suspected criminal network.
The police confirmed that the prime suspect, 26-year-old Sunusi Dawa Kamsusi, a resident of Bachirawa Quarters, was arrested during the operation. Officers reportedly recovered three knives and a suspected charm during the arrest.
Authorities further revealed that nine additional suspects believed to be members of the same gang were later apprehended through coordinated tracking and surveillance efforts.
Suspects Linked to Multiple Crimes
During preliminary investigations, police disclosed that the principal suspect allegedly confessed to involvement in multiple criminal acts, including armed robbery, mobile phone snatching, shop and residential burglaries, and other related offences.
The Command stated that at least 30 individuals have already filed formal complaints against the suspects, indicating the alleged scale of their activities across affected communities.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspects will be charged in court upon the conclusion of ongoing investigations.
Police Commend Community Support
The Commissioner of Police praised officers involved in the operation for their commitment and professionalism. He also commended residents and community stakeholders for providing useful information that aided the investigation.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining law and order across Kano State and urged members of the public to continue cooperating with security agencies by reporting suspicious activities.
