Gunmen suspected to be bandits have kidnapped the Deputy Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Alhaji Samaila Bagudu, at his residence in Bagudu Local Government Area on Friday night.
According to residents, the incident occurred shortly after the Deputy Speaker returned home from observing the Isha’i prayer at the local mosque around 8:00 p.m.
A witness who spoke to Radio Nigeria in Birnin Kebbi said the armed men approached the lawmaker as he was leaving the mosque and ordered him into their vehicle at gunpoint. The attackers reportedly fired several gunshots into the air to disperse worshippers and bystanders before speeding away with their victim.
“They shot one boy in the leg while he was helping the Deputy Speaker to wear his shoes,” the source said. “The boy was rushed to the hospital for treatment. Thankfully, no life was lost during the attack.”
Efforts to reach the Public Relations Officer of the Kebbi State Police Command for confirmation proved unsuccessful, as phone calls and WhatsApp messages sent to his number went unanswered.
Security operatives have reportedly begun tracking the abductors, but no official statement has been released as of press time.
