SDP Expels Ex-National Chairman Shehu Gabam, Youth Leader Over Financial Misconduct
The Social Democratic Party (SDP) has expelled its former National Chairman, Alhaji Shehu Gabam, and several top officials, including the National Youth Leader, Chukwuma Uchechukwu, over alleged financial misconduct, abuse of office, and other unethical practices.
The decision was announced on Thursday following a meeting of the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) in Abuja, which ratified the recommendations of an independent disciplinary committee and a subsequent white paper that reviewed the findings.
Addressing journalists at the party’s national secretariat, the SDP National Publicity Secretary, Mr. Rufus Aiyenigba, said the expulsion followed months of thorough investigation and due disciplinary processes.
According to him, the NWC had earlier suspended Gabam, Uchechukwu, and Clarkson Nnadi, the National Auditor, on June 24, 2025, after a prima facie case of financial impropriety and misconduct was established against them.
“To ensure transparency and fairness, the party constituted an independent disciplinary committee on July 4, 2025, which carried out a two-week investigation and submitted its report on July 18, 2025,” Aiyenigba explained.
He added that the NWC subsequently reviewed and adopted the white paper on August 15, 2025, leading to the final decision to expel the affected members.
The development marks a significant shake-up in the party’s leadership structure as it prepares for upcoming political activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
