NEDC Commends Solar Power Project at Jewel FM Gombe, Pledges More Support for Radio Nigeria Stations.

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has expressed satisfaction with the ongoing installation of solar panels at Radio Nigeria Jewel FM in Gombe, describing the project as a major step toward enhancing uninterrupted broadcasting services in the region.

The Gombe State Coordinator of the Commission, Architect Usman Muhammad, made the remarks during an inspection visit to the project site. He explained that once completed, the solar facility would drastically reduce the station’s dependence on the national electricity grid and ease operational challenges.

Architect Muhammad urged the management of Jewel FM to ensure proper maintenance and protection of the solar infrastructure against vandalism. He assured that the NEDC remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN) to boost service delivery.

He also disclosed that similar solar power projects are being implemented across other Radio Nigeria FM stations in the North East as part of the Commission’s wider intervention to promote effective information dissemination and regional development.

Responding, the General Manager of Jewel FM, Mallam Zubairu Ahmad Kumo, lauded the NEDC for what he described as a landmark intervention across six Radio Nigeria FM stations in the zone. He said the initiative would cut costs, improve efficiency, and ensure smoother broadcast operations.

Mallam Kumo pledged the station’s full support in sustaining the project and consolidating its collaboration with the NEDC for the benefit of listeners across the North East.
