Kano Intending Pilgrims, Mother and Son, Die in Fatal Road Crash
A tragic road accident has claimed the lives of two intending pilgrims from Kano State, casting a shadow of grief over their family, community, and the wider pilgrimage circle.
The victims, Alkasim Ibrahim Walawa, 48, and his mother, Hadiza Garba, 73, lost their lives in a fatal crash along the busy route between Rimin Gado and Kano City. The heartbreaking incident occurred as the duo embarked on a journey tied to their spiritual aspiration of performing the holy pilgrimage.
Alkasim, a devoted family man, is survived by two wives and seven children, while his mother, Hadiza Garba, leaves behind five children. Both were respected indigenes of Walawa Village in Kabo Local Government Area of Kano State.
Their untimely death has been described as particularly painful, given that they were preparing for a sacred journey to the Holy Land—an act regarded by many as one of the highest spiritual callings in Islam.
In a joint statement, the Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board and its Board of Directors expressed profound sorrow over the incident, describing it as a devastating loss not only to the immediate family but also to the entire state.
The Board, alongside its management staff, offered prayers for the repose of the deceased, asking Almighty Allah to forgive their shortcomings and grant them eternal rest in Aljannatul Firdaus. They also extended heartfelt condolences to the bereaved family, urging them to remain steadfast and find solace during this difficult period.
The tragic incident serves as a somber reminder of the unpredictability of life, even in moments of spiritual anticipation, as the Kano pilgrimage community mourns the loss of two of its intending members.
