Governor Yusuf Okays Fresh Appointments, Promotions to Strengthen Kano Governance
Appointees urged to deliver people-centred service as administration pushes Kano First Agenda
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved a fresh round of appointments and promotions aimed at strengthening governance, boosting institutional efficiency and enhancing service delivery across critical sectors of the state.
The decision was announced in a press statement issued on Wednesday, January 28, 2026, and signed by the Director General, Media and Publicity, Government House Kano, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa.
According to the statement, the newly appointed and promoted officials cut across humanitarian services, infrastructure, water resources, education, public communication and recreation, reflecting the administration’s broad-based approach to governance.
Those appointed include Hon. Abdulkadir Balarabe Kankarofi (Alhajij) as Special Adviser on Humanitarian Affairs in the Office of the Executive Governor. He was previously Senior Special Assistant, Protocol I, before his elevation. Also appointed is Hajia Aisha Tamburawa as Special Adviser to the Governor on Positive Propaganda. Until her new role, she served as a Supervisory Councillor in Dawakin Kudu Local Government Area.
In the water sector, Engr. Mukhtar Yusuf has been promoted to Managing Director of the Water Resources Engineering and Construction Agency (WRECA), having served as Deputy Managing Director. Zakari Usman Balan was appointed as the new Deputy Managing Director of the agency.
Governor Yusuf also approved the appointment of Dr. Mukhtar Bello Maisudan, a senior lecturer at Bayero University, Kano, as Executive Secretary of the Kano State Scholarship Board, a move seen as reinforcing professionalism and academic depth in the management of scholarship programmes.
In the infrastructure sector, Engr. Abba Kankarofi was promoted to Managing Director of the Kano Road and Maintenance Agency (KARMA) from his previous position as Deputy Managing Director. Similarly, Hon. Musayyib Kawu Ungoggo was appointed Managing Director of the Kano Zoological Garden. Before this appointment, Ungoggo served in various political capacities, including councillor and Senior Special Reporter.
Governor Yusuf congratulated the appointees and charged them to justify the confidence reposed in them by demonstrating dedication, transparency and unwavering commitment to the welfare of the people of Kano State.
He reaffirmed that his administration remains resolute in strengthening public institutions and delivering people-oriented governance in line with the objectives of the Kano First Agenda.
The latest appointments underscore the governor’s ongoing efforts to reposition the state’s governance architecture for improved performance and sustainable development.
