Veteran lawmaker’s exit deepens party crisis and weakens NNPP’s grip on D – Tofa–Rimin Gado and Tofa Federal Constituency

Honourable Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe, the Member representing Dawakin Tofa –Rimin Gado and Tofa Federal Constituency, has resigned his membership of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP), delivering another major blow to the party’s structure in Kano State.
Hon. Jobe, who is serving his fifth consecutive term in the House of Representatives, formally communicated his decision to withdraw from the party on Friday, January 23, 2026, according to party sources familiar with the development.
Although the contents of his resignation letter were not immediately made public, the veteran lawmaker was said to have cited persistent internal crises, leadership disagreements and structural instability within the NNPP as reasons for his decision.
Political observers describe Hon. Jobe’s exit as a significant loss for the NNPP, given his long-standing influence and deep grassroots support across the D-Tofa , Rimin Gado and Tofa Federal Constituency of Kano State.
Having served in the House of Representatives across five electoral cycles, Hon. Jobe is regarded as one of Kano’s most experienced federal legislators. Over the years, he has built a reputation as a consistent advocate for constituency development, focusing on education support, youth empowerment, healthcare intervention and infrastructural projects.
His resignation comes amid a wave of high-profile departures from the NNPP in Kano State, reflecting widening discontent among senior party figures over unresolved leadership disputes and ongoing legal battles at the national level.
Party officials at the constituency level acknowledged the development, admitting that the loss of a fifth-term lawmaker has significantly weakened the party’s organisational strength and electoral machinery in the constituency.
Analysts say Hon. Jobe’s decision is likely to reshape the political calculations in the Dawakin Tofa –Rimin Gado and Tofa Federal Constituency. where his political weight has been central to electoral outcomes for over a decade.
The resignation has also fuelled speculation over Hon. Jobe’s next political destination, with observers noting that his eventual alignment could have far-reaching implications for party dominance in Kano ahead of future elections.
As political realignments continue to gather momentum in the state, the exit of Hon. Tijjani Abdulkadir Jobe from the NNPP is widely seen as another clear indicator of a deepening crisis within the party and a shifting balance of power in Kano politics.
