BREAKING NEWS: BANDITS ABDUCT OVER 10 RESIDENTS IN FRESH ATTACKS ACROSS KANO COMMUNITIES
Multiple villages in Kano State have come under attack as armed bandits launched coordinated assaults on several communities in Tsanyawa Local Government Area, abducting more than 10 persons—mostly women—in the latest wave of insecurity affecting the region.
The attacks, which occurred on Sunday night, affected Sarmawa, Yan Chibi and Gano villages, sending residents fleeing for safety.
A resident, Malam Usman, confirmed that villagers attempted to resist the attackers but were swiftly overwhelmed by the heavily armed men.
“We tried to resist them but we were overpowered,” he recounted.
According to locals, the communities had earlier alerted security agencies after receiving intelligence that the bandits were approaching. However, the attackers struck before any reinforcements arrived.
Another resident from Yan Chibi narrated that about 50 armed men riding on motorcycles stormed the area, shooting sporadically into the air before abducting an unspecified number of residents.
“So far, no life has been reported lost, but more than 10 persons have been abducted across the affected communities,” he said.
A member of the local vigilante team added that villagers had earlier reported the presence of suspicious individuals around the area. He said the vigilante group attempted to trail the abductors after the raid but eventually lost them as they escaped toward neighbouring Katsina State.
The escalating insecurity has forced many villagers in Tsanyawa and neighbouring LGAs—including Shanono and Bagwai—to abandon their homes. Several settlements now stand deserted, with residents relocating to Faruruwa town and other safer urban centres.
Attempts to reach the Kano State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, were unsuccessful as calls to his phone rang unanswered.
This latest incident comes just a week after bandits invaded Yan Kwada village in the Faruruwa area of Shanono LGA, kidnapping five women, including nursing mothers. It also follows a recent joint military operation in which security forces reportedly neutralized 19 bandits in the region.
The resurgence of attacks has heightened fears among residents, many of whom say they now live in constant anxiety amid persistent threats across Kano’s rural communities.
