Governor Yusuf Appoints 400 Mathematics Teachers to Boost STEM Education in Kano
Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has approved the appointment of 400 new Mathematics teachers into the state’s secondary school system as part of efforts to address critical shortages in key subject areas.
Presenting the permanent and pensionable appointment letters to the beneficiaries, Governor Yusuf said the recruitment was a strategic response to longstanding subject deficits affecting student performance and readiness for science- and technology-related careers.
According to a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, the governor described Mathematics as the backbone of science, technology, engineering and innovation, stressing that Kano must strengthen its human capital to compete in a fast-evolving knowledge economy.
He noted that the addition of the new teachers would help improve teaching quality, raise students’ examination outcomes, and strengthen pathways to Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) disciplines across the state.
Governor Yusuf commended the Ministry of Education and the Kano State Senior Secondary Schools Management Board (KSSSSMB) for what he described as a transparent and impactful recruitment exercise.
He also urged the newly appointed teachers to demonstrate professionalism, passion and commitment in their duties, adding that they must justify the trust the government has placed in them.
