Kano Government Cautions Tipper and Quarry Operators Against Encroachment on Public Infrastructure
The Kano State Government has issued a strong warning to members of the Union of Tipper and Quarry Supply Employers of Nigeria (UTSQEN) against encroaching on state-owned bridges and water board facilities during sand quarrying and related operations.
This was contained in a statement issued by the Director, Public Enlightenment of the Ministry, Adamu Ibrahim Dabo Dawakin Tofa, and made available to newsmen in Kano.
The caution was given by the Commissioner for Mineral Resources, Alhaji Hamza Safiyanu, during a courtesy visit by the union’s leadership. He emphasized that the government will not condone activities that threaten public infrastructure, noting that quarrying must be carried out strictly within designated and approved boundaries.
Alhaji Hamza further called for deeper cooperation between the union and relevant government revenue agencies, while underscoring the need to prioritize environmental protection. He assured the union of the ministry’s full support in the execution of their lawful duties.
The newly elected Chairman of UTSQEN, Alhaji Isa Jafar Kofar Naisa, stated that the visit was to officially notify the ministry of the new leadership and to strengthen working relations. He pledged the union’s commitment to adherence with environmental laws and expressed continued support for the state’s monthly sanitation exercise under the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The meeting was attended by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Engineer Mansur Yakubu, alongside several directors.
