TWO NWU FACULTIES HONOUR VICE CHANCELLOR PROFESSOR KURAWA FOR EXEMPLARY LEADERSHIP

The Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, Northwest University Kano, have jointly honoured the Vice Chancellor, Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa, with awards of appreciation in recognition of his visionary leadership, academic excellence, and transformative contributions to the University’s development.

During a courtesy visit to the Vice Chancellor’s office on Friday, the Department of Chemistry delegation, led by its Head, Professor Salihu Kiyawa, presented an award of appreciation to Professor Kurawa, describing him as “a leader whose tenure has redefined both academic and administrative excellence across the institution.”

The event, marked by emotional tributes, featured heartfelt remarks from members of the visiting team who lauded the Vice Chancellor’s humility, dedication, and impactful mentorship to both staff and students.

In his response, Professor Kurawa expressed profound gratitude to Almighty Allah and to the department for the honour, recalling his early engagement with them at the start of his administration.

“When I came to this University, I went round the Chemistry Department to meet and discuss with the people. I had hoped to do the same at the end of my tenure, but it seems time is not on our side. I seek your forgiveness if I have offended anyone in the course of my leadership,”
Professor Mukhtar Atiku Kurawa.

He thanked the department for the thoughtful recognition and prayed for continued progress and harmony within the University community.

In a related event, the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences, led by its Dean, Dr. Nura A. Yaro, also presented an award of honour to the Vice Chancellor in appreciation of his commitment to institutional expansion and human capital development. The visiting team included Professor Bilyaminu Ado Muhammad and Dr. Nazifi Umar, Head of the Department of Geography.

Presenting the award, Dr. Yaro commended Professor Kurawa for his enduring legacy of academic excellence and inclusive governance, describing his tenure as a model of purposeful leadership in the Nigerian university system.

Responding, Professor Kurawa thanked the Faculty for the honour and reaffirmed his commitment to the continued growth of Northwest University, even beyond his tenure.

The twin recognitions by the Department of Chemistry and the Faculty of Social and Management Sciences underscore the widespread admiration for Professor Kurawa’s leadership, marked by innovation, integrity, and a shared vision for institutional excellence.
