GOV. YUSUF PLEDGES SUPPORT FOR KANO NIPR DELEGATION TO 2026 WORLD PR FORUM

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has pledged his administration’s full backing for the state’s delegation to the 2026 World Public Relations Forum (WPRF), while promising land for the construction of a permanent secretariat for the Kano State Council of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR).

The governor made the commitment on Saturday when he received the leadership and members of the Kano NIPR Council at the Government House, Kano, shortly after public relations practitioners in the state staged a road walk as part of activities ahead of the international forum.

The 2026 WPRF is scheduled to hold in Abuja in November and is expected to bring together public relations practitioners and communication experts to deliberate on emerging trends and the future of the profession.

Represented by the Director-General, Media and Publicity, Government House, Kano, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf assured the Kano delegation that the state government would do everything within its capacity to facilitate its successful participation in the forum.

The governor described the WPRF as an important platform for practitioners to exchange ideas, examine emerging developments and strengthen the public relations profession in response to contemporary communication challenges.

He also pledged to allocate a plot of land for the construction of a permanent secretariat for the Kano State Council of NIPR.

Yusuf said the initiative was part of his administration’s efforts to strengthen professional institutions and provide an enabling environment for public relations practitioners to contribute meaningfully to the development of the state.

The governor also reiterated his administration’s commitment to the safety, welfare and professional development of journalists and other media practitioners working in Kano.

According to him, the state government has supported media practitioners through various interventions, including capacity-building programmes, provision of working equipment and assistance towards their welfare and healthcare.

He urged journalists to maintain professional and ethical standards in their work, particularly in the face of the rapid transformation of the media landscape through digital technology.

Yusuf further charged media practitioners to use social media responsibly to promote good governance, accountability, peace and development, while ensuring that information circulated to the public meets established professional standards.

Earlier, former member of the NIPR National Executive Council, Professor Sule Ya’u Sule, said the delegation was at the Government House to formally brief the governor on the forthcoming World Public Relations Forum and its objectives.

Sule said the forum would provide practitioners with an opportunity to review the concept and practice of public relations against the backdrop of emerging technologies and changes in the global communication environment.

In his remarks, Chairman of the Kano State Council of NIPR, Malam Aliyu Yusuf, congratulated Governor Yusuf on the awards he had received in recognition of his administration’s transformation efforts in the state.

He disclosed that the Kano NIPR Council was considering conferring a Patronship on the governor in recognition of his support for the council and his commitment to the development of the public relations and media profession in Kano.

The visit followed a road walk organised by the Kano NIPR Council and other practitioners as part of activities leading to the 2026 World Public Relations Forum.
