Fully recognizing the long-standing challenges inherited within the sector, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf took a decisive step by declaring a formal state of emergency on education—a move that has catalyzed aggressive funding and institutional reform.
This commitment is reflected in the state’s unprecedented financial backing. Budgetary allocations for education have seen a steady, historical rise: jumping from 29.5 percent in 2024 to 30.5 percent in 2025, and hitting 31.5 percent in 2026 out of a total state budget exceeding N1.47 trillion.

Massive Teacher Recruitment:
Nearly 20,000 new teachers including Kano State Better Education for All BESDA have been recruited to directly address severe manpower shortages in classrooms.

Across all 44 Local Government Areas, nearly 400 schools have undergone complete renovation, alongside ongoing construction and rehabilitation projects aimed at restoring conducive learning environments. These massive investments in education made Kano to lead in NECO examination with high performances in 2025 and it did it again in 2026, Kano emerged the highest scores in the country, followed by Lagos and Oyo. Kano recorded 74, 413 candidates who obtained at least five credits, including English language and Mathematics, placing Kano ahead of other states across Federation, with Lagos as second with 72, 496 candidates and Oyo came third with 55, 543 candidates.

The governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, is targeting to complete the remaining 6 General Hospitals so that every local government has its own General Hospitals, apart from other primary health centers across the state.

Hospitals are receiving cutting-edge equipment—including CT scan machines, dialysis units, ultrasound machines, and automated laboratory analysers—to strengthen diagnostic accuracy and treatment capabilities.
