2027: NDC Picks Mustapha Kwankwaso as Gwarzo’s Running Mate in Kano
KANO, June 15, 2026 – The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has officially unveiled Hon. Mustapha Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso as the running mate to its governorship candidate, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, ahead of the 2027 Kano State Governorship Election.
The announcement was made on Monday during a consultative meeting attended by party caucus members and key stakeholders at Miller Road, Kano, where Hon. Kwankwaso was formally presented to party leaders and supporters.
According to a statement issued by the spokesperson to the governorship candidate, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, the selection of Hon. Kwankwaso followed extensive consultations and careful consideration of several qualified individuals within and outside the party structure.
The statement described the decision as a strategic move aimed at strengthening the party’s commitment to inclusive governance, youth empowerment, economic growth, and improved service delivery across Kano State.
Speaking shortly after the unveiling, Comrade Gwarzo expressed confidence in the ability of his running mate to contribute significantly to the realization of the party’s vision for Kano State.
He noted that Hon. Kwankwaso’s wealth of experience, proven leadership qualities, and strong grassroots connection make him an invaluable partner in the quest to provide effective and people-oriented governance.
Hon. Mustapha Kwankwaso, who previously served as Commissioner for Youth and Sports in Kano State, is widely recognized for his contributions to youth development, community engagement, and public service.
The NDC leadership believes that the Gwarzo-Kwankwaso ticket presents a formidable combination of competence, integrity, experience, and dedication needed to address the developmental challenges facing Kano State and deliver purposeful leadership to its citizens.
