Police Launch Manhunt After Fatal Attack, Abduction Rock Kebbi Community


Grief and fear have enveloped residents of Badariya area in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State following a deadly early morning attack by suspected gunmen that left a 35-year-old man dead and his wife abducted.
The Kebbi State Police Command confirmed the incident on Friday, saying a coordinated manhunt has been launched to track down the perpetrators and secure the safe rescue of the abducted victim.
Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, who briefed journalists in the state capital, identified the deceased as Sufiyanu Garba, a resident of Badariya quarters. He said the attackers reportedly stormed the victim’s residence in the early hours of March 13, fatally injuring him before whisking away his wife to an unknown destination.
Detectives were said to have swiftly visited the scene and commenced preliminary investigations. Police authorities also noted that a checkpoint is located not far from the area, which could have been alerted at the time to facilitate a faster security response.
The victim was rushed to Sir Yahaya Memorial Hospital where a medical doctor confirmed him dead. His remains have since been deposited at the hospital morgue.
In a decisive move, the Commissioner of Police in the state has directed the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) to take over the case and ensure a thorough and diligent investigation aimed at apprehending those responsible and rescuing the abducted woman.
The Command reassured residents that steps are being taken to strengthen the security architecture across the state and prevent a recurrence of such incidents. It also urged members of the public to promptly report emergencies and suspicious activities, emphasizing that timely information is vital for rapid intervention.
The tragic attack has heightened security concerns among residents, even as law enforcement agencies intensify operations to restore calm and protect lives and property in the affected community.
