INEC Resumes Phase II of Continuous Voter Registration in Kebbi, Urges Mass Participation
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) in Kebbi State has officially commenced the second phase of its Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, calling on eligible residents to take advantage of the opportunity to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs).
Speaking during a stakeholders’ engagement at the INEC State Office in Birnin Kebbi, the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Pawa Dambo, underscored the critical role of voter registration and PVC collection in strengthening Nigeria’s democratic process. He stressed that the success of elections depends largely on citizens’ willingness to participate actively by ensuring they are duly registered.
According to Dambo, the Phase II CVR exercise, which commenced on January 5, 2026, will run until April 17, 2026. He explained that the exercise is open to a wide range of applicants, including eligible citizens registering for the first time, previously registered voters seeking corrections or updates to their details, individuals who have lost or damaged their PVCs, and voters who wish to transfer their registration to a new location.
The REC noted that registration is taking place at INEC Local Government Area offices, the State Headquarters, as well as Registration Area Centres and wards across Kebbi State to ensure accessibility for all eligible voters.
He appealed to political leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organisations and other stakeholders to intensify sensitisation efforts within their communities, emphasizing that possession of a PVC remains the only requirement that qualifies citizens to vote in any election.
Reaffirming INEC’s commitment to credibility, Dambo assured stakeholders that the commission would conduct the exercise with the highest standards of integrity, transparency and fairness.
“INEC is determined to provide a level playing field and ensure a smooth, open and credible registration process for all eligible citizens,” he said.
The resumption of the CVR exercise is expected to significantly boost voter participation in Kebbi State ahead of future elections, as INEC continues its drive to expand the voter register and deepen democratic inclusion.
